Sept. 1, 2026 Meeting Agenda

Wilmont members, residents and friends,
Our September meeting will be next Tuesday, September 1 (we generally meet on the first Tuesday of every month)  from 6:30 – 8:30 PM via Zoom and in-person. We have had requests for in-person meetings so we will be doing a hybrid meeting on 9/1, 10/6 and 11/3 (election day) with our annual meeting only in person in December.  We will start with an in-person social half-hour from 6:30 – 7 PM at Montana Library (1704 Montana Ave.) with light snacks/drinks and will host a Zoom meeting PLUS people can attend in person via the community room AND see Zoom attendees via a screen.  It is our second run on this but Robert Graves of the SM Library will be helping us  (thank goodness) and our first one went smoothly.

·       7:20 to 8 PM: Coastal Zone
o   Update: Wilmont coastal zone is 20 blocks between Ocean and 4th St and Montana and Wilshire and probably 40% of our population.  Two bills have been tried and one bill is in process to strip away the CA Coastal Act (50th anniversary) and CA Coastal Commission oversight from our Coastal Zone, leaving only 4 our of 7 votes on a Tues. evening

o   History: Ruth Galanter – urban planner and environmental advocate, in 1973, she filed the first appeal by a California resident challenging a gated, 1,480-unit Ocean Park development.  She will speak to us about the history and need of the California Coastal Act and the California Coastal Commission.
·       8 to 8:25 PM: Presentation for Support of (Gleam Davis) and Opposition to (Karen Melick) the Parcel Tax Ballot Measure ES
·       Time Available: City Updates – NOAA, Wise Diner at Reed Park, ENA – Goldenvoice, San Vicente trees, city takes over more housing for homeless
 
·       Wilmont Second Saturdays are BACK – Join us on 9/12 and 10/10 at Reed Park for LIVE Music and Outdoor Movies.  9/12 will be Paddington 2 and 10/10 will be Lego Movie.  Music at 6 PM and movie at sunset
